If I had to pick just one item on Gigli’s SEO checklist, it would be regular checks/updates to on-page content – specifically keywords. Ensuring that our content is not only rich with targeted keywords but also valuable and relevant to your audience can significantly boost our rankings if we get it right.
In addition, regularly checking and updating this content ensures that we stay up to date with consumer needs and search behaviors as well as any changes to Google’s algorithm.
In fact, on this last note, there have been a few instances where Google’s algorithm changes have resulted in a drop in performance of our site. By ensuring we check our on-page content, we were able to catch these effects quickly and make the necessary adjustments to maintain our site’s performance.

Nothing matters as much as backlinks. While getting the right balance of quality and quantity matters, more backlinks is almost always better, especially for new businesses. Focus on reaching out to media outlets, pursuing partnerships with related businesses, and soliciting positive reviews and related posts in order to boost your link profile.

If I had to focus on just one item of on SEO checklist, I would focus on backlinks this year. Backlinks have always been important, but I’m noticing that they are having the most impact on our SEO this year. I would rather have new backlinks than new content or on-page restructuring, in 2024. Google is struggling to cut out thin content, and they’re doing this by focusing on expertise and authority. Backlinks help Google trust sites more so they don’t have to rely on just the strength of the content.

Identifying and fixing crawl errors is an essential element on our site’s SEO checklist. It’s great and important for people to find our website when searching for relevant information online, but those efforts prove futile when there are crawl errors. We can do everything right, but if search engines cannot access our pages, we simply won’t have success. So from a technical perspective, this element of our site’s SEO checklist is huge.

If we only did one thing for our SEO performance, it would be monitoring our competitors’ approach and performance. This gives us a clear sense of where we stand in the marketplace, which keywords they’re targeting, and where they’re struggling. Imitation by itself isn’t enough, but it is essential if we simply want to keep up, and at the times when we can’t afford to put more effort into SEO, that’s what we focus on.

It would be ‘Content Quality and Relevancy.’ In my extensive experience in digital marketing, content that is original, valuable, and relevant consistently outshines other SEO factors. Be it for MagicalNepal or businesses I’ve partnered with, a cohesive narrative that resonates with the audience and offers solutions to their needs has always been central to my SEO strategy.
Effective SEO is no longer just about strategically placed keywords. Instead, it’s about creating engaging, high-quality content that your audience wants to read, share, and link back to.
Remember, Google rewards those who effectively meet the users’ needs through content relevancy, illustrating why this would be my number-one choice on any SEO checklist.

Page speed is an essential element of not just ranking in search engines, but also the experience of users on the site. High bounce rates and low engagement typically characterize slow, loading pages which in return affects rankings negatively. In cool terms, the Core Web Vitals that have been developed by Google also emphasize speed and stability attributes that give users satisfactory experience. Basically by deploying measures to minimize the uptake and responsiveness of the site, improving image contents and response times of the server should focus on increasing overall site performance and quality in search engines.

If I had to pick just one essential element from our SEO checklist, it would be readability. In my experience, ensuring that the content is conversational and easy to understand is crucial. Whenever I’m writing or approving blog posts for our site, I always read them out loud before publishing. This practice helps me ensure that the information flows naturally and makes sense, just like a normal conversation.
So many sites publish content that is overly technical, filled with jargon, or just plain wordy, making it difficult for readers to digest. This not only impacts user engagement but also affects how search engines evaluate and rank content.
By prioritizing readability, we not only enhance user experience but also improve our content’s performance in search rankings. It’s a straightforward yet powerful way to connect with our audience and boost SEO.

It may seem pretty basic, but it’s always important to make sure your site’s internal link structure stays intact and well-designed. Internal linking makes it easier for human and AI visitors to find what they’re looking for, and helps to improve the SEO performance of your site. While there are definitely other metrics to consider, this is one that can be done in-house and should never be neglected.
