If I had to choose just one important element from our SEO checklist that helps our company better perform and improve our rankings on search engine results pages (SERP), I would say it would be our on-page SEO.

As SEO stands right now in 2024, Google places a strong emphasis and priority on on-page elements like text.

Creating a website that’s built around and that includes   text with juicy keywords is instrumental in helping our website perform.

Keyword-rich websites help Google better scan our website and place it at the top of search engine results pages (SERP) because the content includes text and keywords that are relevant to a user’s search experience and search intent.

I believe on-page SEO is valuable in helping boost rankings, develop backlinks, and boost overall domain authority.

In sum, if I had to choose one SEO element to continually refine in the quest for better performance and improved rankings, it would be to optimize and improve on-page SEO verbiage.

The most critical element of our SEO checklist is conducting thorough technical SEO audits in close collaboration with our developers. As AI-driven ranking factors dominate in 2024, optimizing JavaScript and CSS for speed has never been more essential. Our audits prioritize these aspects to boost both site performance and search rankings. We complement this with automated daily and weekly alerts to keep our technical team proactive, ensuring prompt resolutions and maintaining peak site conditions.

If I had to zero in on one crucial SEO element, I would unequivocally choose ‘High-Quality Link Building’. Time and again, this strategy has proven to be a game-changer in improving website rankings. Link building serves as an essential method for Google to determine how valuable your content is to users worldwide. A higher number of high-quality backlinks to your site solidifies your website’s authority, boosting it higher in the search engine rankings.

While working with PressHERO, I’ve leveraged high-quality link-building to successfully enhance online visibility and credibility for small businesses. In one instance, we secured a high-quality backlink from a major media outlet for a small e-commerce client. The high-quality backlink played a pivotal role in enhancing the website’s visibility and elevated its ranking on Google search results from page 5 to page 2 within just two months.

Squeezing my extensive SEO checklist down to one element is no easy task. Yet, if I had to choose, I’d pick ‘relevant and quality content’ as the most indispensable element. At the end of the day, SEO is all about providing value to your audience, and content is the primary method of delivering that value. Google’s algorithm looks for original, valuable, and relevant content. Quality content not only positions your brand as an authority in your field but also drives organic traffic and boosts user engagement, all of which are essential for higher ranking.

For instance, at DesignRush, we prioritize creating compelling content that resonates with our target audience’s needs. This has been instrumental in attracting the right users, improving our site’s dwell time, and in turn, boosting our SEO performance.

A challenging question indeed, but if I had to narrow down on a single critical element in SEO, it would be ‘Local SEO’. In the hospitality industry, especially in the restaurant business, reaching customers in your vicinity is crucial. By optimizing for local SEO, we make ourselves more visible to potential patrons searching for dining options ‘near them’ or in ‘their city’.

This involves primarily ensuring the accuracy and consistency of our NAP  across various platforms such as Google My Business, Yelp, and TripAdvisor. Couple this with localized content and garnering positive customer reviews, and you enhance not just your search engine visibility but the probability of actual in-house turnovers. In essence, while other SEO elements also play vital roles, local SEO is the make-or-break factor in my checklist.

If I could only choose one element from my SEO checklist, it would be producing high-quality blogs because their ROI is unparalleled.

They establish you as an authority in your niche. You can use blogs to provide industry insights, establishing you as a go-to source when journalists and others need your expertise.

High-quality blogs increase engagement and dwell time, which Google loves. Producing valuable content boosts your chances of earning backlinks from high-authority websites – one of Google’s top 3 most important ranking factors. Google views them as votes of confidence.

These are just a few reasons I would abandon all other SEO techniques in favor of quality blogs.

If I had to select a single indispensable element from an SEO checklist, I would unquestionably pick ‘Keyword Research‘. While all aspects of SEO are important in manifesting a well-optimized site, I believe keyword research stands at the epicenter of every successful SEO strategy. This is because it uncovers what potential customers are searching for, thereby guiding businesses to create relevant content that both fulfills user intent and ranks high on search engines. Essentially, it shapes the overall direction of your SEO tactics, making it a pivotal starting point for any robust campaign. For instance, at Hyper Dog Media, we’ve assisted several businesses, from startups to large corporations, in achieving better visibility and rankings by emphasizing the significance of comprehensive keyword research and weaving these insights into their overall marketing strategy.

Content quality would be the one significant element from an SEO checklist if I had to choose. The search engine now has a better understanding of what users are looking for, and there is no longer any need for keyword stuffing. Quality content lies at the heart of almost every other aspect of SEO, it attracts backlinks; aids in user engagement; and tells search engines that you are worth being considered.

Good content adds value to users by answering their questions, solving their problems, or providing insights that improve user metrics such as time on page, reduced bounce rates, and increased conversions. Furthermore, great content is adaptable considering diverse forms such as blogs and video optimization for mobile devices or support internal linking strategies. Technical SEO like speed and backlinks matters but nothing beats well-researched interesting highly valuable content.

One of the most overlooked but important SEO elements is internal linking.
Internal linking is important for four reasons:

  • It helps the search bots to crawl the websites
  • It builds a relevant relationship between 2 web pages
  • It gives signals to search engines what the page is about
  • With the help of external links, it becomes easier to get a higher rank in SERPs

Regularly update old content to keep it relevant and maintain its ranking. If you wrote an article in 2023, you might want to update it for the current year, as obsolete articles will quickly fade into the bottom of the search results.
